With the expected closing this year, another successful step has been taken in the implementation of RUAG International's privatization strategy.
Over several decades, RUAG Aerostructures Germany & Hungary, exclusive supplier to Airbus for the A320 family, has positioned itself as a technology leader in the aerostructures market. With the acquisition of RUAG Aerostructures Germany & Hungary by the German group Mubea, the company now finds an ideal opportunity to continue its successful development, strengthen its leading position and achieve further improvements in terms of delivery quality, reliability and flexibility at the two sites in Oberpfaffenhofen and Eger.
Strong interest in the market based on customer confidence and strong market position
André Wall, CEO of RUAG International, underlines the importance of the acquisition: “It is fantastic to see how RUAG Aerostructures Germany & Hungary has been able to create value over the last years and generate great interest in the market during the divestment process. The competence and passion of our employees, combined with the support of our owner and the trust of our valued customer Airbus, has enabled this excellent market position. I am immensely proud of the performance of the Aerostructures colleagues and thank everyone involved. With Mubea, we have found a new owner who is ideally positioned to further develop our Aerostructures business in Germany and Hungary. Coupled with the well-known quality and reliability for our customers, the expansion of the technological leadership will also offer exciting opportunities for the employees.”
Continued strategic development and expansion of technological leadership
The Mubea Group, a renowned family business, is an innovative lightweight construction specialist with over 14,000 employees at 50 production sites worldwide. The group will take over all business activities and all the approximately 1,000 employees. With this step, Mubea wants to strengthen its competencies in the aviation sector. "With Mubea, we have found a new owner who already works closely with our key customer Airbus and who wants to strategically develop its aerospace business with us," says Clemens Friedl, Executive Vice President of RUAG Aerostructures Germany and Hungary. "Together with RUAG Aerostructures' expertise, we see extremely interesting opportunities to set new technology standards in the aerostructures market and to support our customer Airbus in building the 'aircraft of the future'."
Within the Mubea Group, RUAG Aerostructures Germany & Hungary will become part of Mubea Aviation GmbH, which currently employs 450 people. “With the acquisition of the aerospace activities of RUAG Aerostructures Germany & Hungary, Mubea is adding an important strategic component to its existing aerospace business and establishing itself as a mediumsized German supplier to Airbus. Through this we intend to make an important contribution to strengthening the Airbus supply chain.” says Dr.-Ing. Dr.-Ing. E. h. Thomas Muhr, Managing Partner of Muhr und Bender KG. Furthermore, he declared: "The technological leadership, the long-standing close cooperation with Airbus in the A320 programme, the high reliability as well as the high competence and motivation of the employees were important criteria for our decision to acquire the company. We are therefore pleased to welcome the employees of RUAG Aerostructures Germany and Hungary to the Mubea family in the near future.”
Another successful step in the privatization strategy
The acquisition is still subject to approval by the authorities. The transfer of ownership (contractual closing) is expected before the end of the year. The details of the contract are subject to a non-disclosure agreement. With the sale of RUAG Aerostructures Germany & Hungary, RUAG International has reached a further milestone in the implementation of our owner's – the Swiss Confederation – strategy. In the course of this process, the next step is the divestment of Aerostructures Switzerland AG (in Emmen). In addition, the space business is also to be privatized with Beyond Gravity' by the end of 2025.
